NOTICE CLOSING UNIMAP PORTAL & CONTENT TRANSITION TO OTHER PLATFORMS (FULL CLOSING DATE: 30-AUGUST-2023)
For the information of all UniMAP citizens, the Digital Management and Development Center (DMDC) has upgraded the University's Main Database from Oracle 11GR2 to Oracle 19C last September 2022.
This upgrade work also involves disruption to the UniMAP Portal due to compatibility issues. The UniMAP portal (https://portal.unimap.edu.my) that is currently being used is based on the Oracle Portal 10G product purchased in 2007. This UniMAP portal does not have any latest version that can be used with the upcoming Oracle Database 19C upgraded.
As an alternative measure to replace the long-standing UniMAP Portal product, the DMDC has identified the important content of the portal, proposed a platform and method of transferring the content of the portal. Among the platforms that will be used as alternative platforms are UniSIS System, OSI System, UniMAP Official Website, PTJ Website and e-Meeting System. A Special Website has been developed to provide information related to the process of closing and transferring the content of the portal. The Special Website can be reached through the following URL :
URL : https://migrasiportal.unimap.edu.my/
In line with the above, the full closure of the UniMAP Portal will be done on 30 AUGUST 2023. Request all UniMAP citizens to stop uploading any documents to the UniMAP Portal and switch to the alternative platform mentioned above.
That's it for information, thanks.
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is committed to producing highly skilled engineers and digital talent in support of the Malaysian government’s MyDIGITAL blueprint for a digital economy. Established in 2002, UniMAP has been recognized by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (“THE Rankings”), as one of the world’s best young universities.
UniMAP relies on Juniper for its campus and data center networks, which provide a smart, secure, and seamless digital foundation that enhances the learning experience for students and simplifies IT operations.

CHALLENGE
Developing digital talent in Malaysia
UniMAP, one of Malaysia’s four technical universities, operates a distributed campus in Perlis in northern peninsular Malaysia.
“We educate future engineers who will drive Malaysia’s growth,” says Nasrudin Abd Shukor, Director, Digital Management and Development Centre (DMDC) at UniMAP. “We needed a network that would support their education and research needs.”
UniMAP embarked on a journey to transform its campus network to keep pace with the accelerated adoption of a digital learning environment. The university also wanted to upgrade its data center network to meet its growing data and application needs.
SOLUTION
Build a digital-driven campus
To meet the increased digital demands of education and research, UniMAP deployed a unified wireless and wired network from Juniper at its distributed campuses across Perlis.
Juniper wireless access points work in conjunction with the Juniper Mist cloud architecture driven by Mist AI™ to deliver optimized network experiences to students, faculty, and staff. Juniper EX4650 Switches and the Juniper Mist Wired Assurance cloud service provide simple, secure wired connectivity on campus. AI-driven cloud tools, including Juniper Mist Wi-Fi Assurance, Wired Assurance, and Marvis Virtual Network Assistant, streamline and automate network operations.
“We can monitor user service-level expectations from the web or an app,” says Shukor. “With Juniper and Mist AI, our technicians are more efficient and solve problems faster.”
UniMAP, an early adopter of software-defined data center technologies, upgraded its core network to 100GbE, giving students and faculty plenty of bandwidth to access applications, databases, and analytics. It deployed Juniper QFX10002 and QFX5120 Switches as the core and access switches for flexible, high-throughput connectivity.
“Juniper is a one-stop-shop for a wide range of our networking needs, including enterprise and campus networks, data center networks, and wireless,” says Shukor. “Juniper is a leader in the industry.”
OUTCOME
Educating the next generation of digital talent
By building a data-driven digital campus that is fully connected, accessible, and secure, UniMAP can continuously improve the campus experiences for Malaysia’s next generation of engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs.
UniMAP’s network supports the learning, teaching, and research of more than 17,000 people and 56,000 learning management sessions a week. Students have faster, more reliable access to the learning management system, collaboration tools, video recordings of lectures, and other digital resources. Student success analytics helps administrators continuously improve teaching and learning.
The digital-driven campus also advances UniMAP’s mission to produce skilled individuals who can contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth. The Malaysian government expects that its digital economy will account for 25.5% of its gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.
“Juniper has helped us facilitate the development of a digital-first campus, providing an exceptional learning and teaching environment with accessibility to information and digital resources that are key to shaping the minds of our future graduates.”

A Juniper powered network will serve as the foundation for UniMAP’s ability to provide its students and teachers with a smarter, more secure and seamless digital experience on campus.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), a leader in secure, AI-driven networks, today announced that Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), a leading technical university in Malaysia, has selected Juniper’s solutions for upgrades to its campus and data centers networks, enhancing digital learning experiences for its student and staff. With a robust AI-driven network, UniMAP is on the road to consolidate and optimize their campus network capabilities, empowering the future engineers who will drive Malaysia’s digital future.
In support of Malaysia's ambitions to grow its digital economy, which is expected to contribute 25.5% of its GDP by 2025, the government launched the MyDIGITAL roadmap, with one of its key thrusts being the development of agile and competent digital talent. Since its establishment in 2002, UniMAP has grown to become one of Malaysia's only four technical universities, committed to producing highly skilled engineers to support the country's economy.
UniMAP embarked on a journey last year to transform its campus networking infrastructure to support its transition to a digital learning environment and keep up with the increased usage of its Learning Management System, which now has 17,000 cumulative users per week. Juniper’s proven track record of delivering a wide range of networking needs with the university in the past, as well as its recognition as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Wired and Wireless LAN Infrastructure, were critical factors in the vendor selection process.
A combination of Juniper’s AP33 and AP32 Wireless Access Points were deployed across the campus in conjunction with Juniper Mist Wi-Fi Assurance, streamlining network management and enhancing the experience of the school’s IT team and students. To underpin this connectivity, Juniper EX4650 Ethernet Switches and Juniper Mist Wired Assurance were selected, providing the school with a unified wired and wireless experience driven by Mist AI that delivers simple, secure, and more reliable connectivity at scale. UniMAP has also implemented Juniper’s Marvis Virtual Network Assistant, which leverages AI to help the school's IT team to unify network management and streamline service monitoring and troubleshooting.
The university’s data center was upgraded with Juniper’s QFX 10002 and QFX 5120 switches in virtual chassis configuration. This setup has reduced the data center network’s latency to microseconds while also providing a 100GbE connection. Students and faculty will now have access seamless and ultra-fast access to the university’s expanding applications and databases, which is critical to providing the best learning experiences.
With an AI-driven network powered by Juniper, UniMAP has been able to continuously improve campus experiences for Malaysia’s next generation of engineers through a data-driven digital campus that is fully connected, accessible and more secure. All of this is done while furthering the university’s mission of being internationally competitive and producing exemplary individuals who contribute to the nation’s digital economy aspirations and overall development.
